Air Quality Network Manager

Air Quality Network Manager
Areas of Work 

Air Quality Monitor Network Management (60%)

  • Manage and implement air quality monitor deployment and maintenance of all monitors in the JustAir network. This will include doing field work, site visits, and implementing regular calibration, collocation deployment, and maintenance as needed. This will also include managing installation and maintenance teams (third party contractors) to implement the work and ensure the network is fully operational and reduce monitor down-time.
  • Ensure high quality data by reviewing air quality dashboards daily, noting anomalies and working with JustAir team and partners to offer technical assistance, troubleshoot and solve issues. 
  • Improve monitor deployment and maintenance documentation, training programs, safety protocols, and troubleshooting guidelines using manufacturer-recommended practices, field work, research, and more. 
  • Operationalize and automate quality assurance/quality check (QA/QC) protocol into the JustAir platform in collaboration with the Engineering Team.
  • Support the Project Manager and/or Partnerships Team to make informed recommendations on which monitoring devices to use to meet the partner’s goals (including but not limited to sensor capabilities, installation requirements, budget, maintenance, timeline, etc).
  • Collaborate with team and clients to systemize and scale JustAir software to improve efficiency and QA/QC specifically related to air quality monitoring devices and data.

Vendor Relationships and Inventory Management (15%) 

  • Develop expert knowledge on all air quality monitoring trends and products, developing and maintaining an up-to-date internal database with all product specs, costs, and additional details.
  • Improve and operationalize monitor location database and inventory system.
  • Build and sustain relationships with air quality monitoring vendors, securing pricing, opportunities to pilot or test devices, business development opportunities, and more. 
  • Support Project Managers to purchase monitors, manage inventory, and repair or replace devices as needed.

Air Quality Analysis, Reporting & Education (15%)

  • Collaborate with Project Team to develop both technical and public-facing air quality reports, drawing on expertise, research, best practices and data. 
  • Collaborate with the projects team to develop graphs, charts, infographics, etc., to showcase data in a digestible format for both technical and public audiences.
  • Research and document air quality improvement recommendations from multiple perspectives (behavioral change, environmental change, structural/policy change).
  • Collaborate with the team and clients to inform the enhancements of JustAir’s air quality data reporting, analytics, and visualization products.

Team, Strategy & Innovation (10%)

  • Actively participate in team meetings and strategy sessions, develop and meet organizational objectives and key results.
  • Implement projects within the standard process and procedures, documented and tracked in tools like Monday, Hubspot, Jira, the JustAir App, and mores.
  • Improve processes and software based on client feedback, research, and lived experience.
  • Allocate time to research, iterate, participate in or lead special projects that further the company’s mission

Required Skills, Attributes & Interests

Experience & Expertise

  • Education and 1 - 3 years of experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of air pollution, EPA National Air Quality Standards, and familiar with air quality monitoring devices and best practices, with desire to grow in expertise.
  • Familiar with state and federal air quality policies, air quality research, permitting processes, regulatory programs, reporting systems, geographic information systems (GIS), environmental modeling, and fieldwork, with desire to grow in expertise.
  • Experience and enjoyment in troubleshooting technical equipment and self-led problem-solving
  • Experience managing dashboards and/or inventory systems.
  • Skilled in understanding, organizing, visualizing, and presenting environmental data.
  • Experience collaborating with community leaders, preference for past experience working directly with vendors and clients.

Additional Requirements

Requirements & Physical Demands

Because of the nature of the company and this role, the Air Quality Network Manager must meet the following requirements: 

  • Be based in Metro Detroit and able/willing to work in-person at the JustAir office, located in Corktown, Detroit, at least two days a week.
  • Be able and willing to travel across Wayne County, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and potentially other locations regularly to implement field work in a variety of weather conditions. 
  • Have a current drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Able to sit at a desk and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift 20 lbs.
  • Able and willing to climb a 6-foot ladder.

Physical Demands

Additional Details

This is a full time salaried position with health benefits with a start date of August 1, 2024. Starting salary is expected to be between $65,000 and $75,000 based on experience.
