We’re partnering with the City of Dearborn’s Department of Public Health to integrate air quality data and health in all policies.
The Challenge
The City of Dearborn, home to major industrial facilities and dense transportation corridors, lacked comprehensive air quality monitoring infrastructure to understand hyperlocal pollution patterns, inform city planning decisions, or protect residents from exposure to industrial emissions. Without reliable environmental data, the city's health department couldn't fully implement its health in all policies approach, and residents had limited visibility into the air quality around them.
The Solution
JustAir deployed Dearborn's first comprehensive air quality monitoring network, establishing an integrated environmental data infrastructure. The network combines eight sensors from three manufacturers into a unified platform with real-time AQI calculations and a public-facing dashboard, providing hyperlocal air quality insights across the city.
In 2025, the city upgraded select monitors to better measure PM10. a core pollutant in industrial areas, strengthening the network's ability to track emissions from facilities and inform protective actions.

Dearborn demonstrates how mid-sized cities can leverage air quality data across all aspects of governance. Comprehensive environmental monitoring isn't just for large metros or regulatory agencies, but a practical tool for improving municipal service delivery and protecting public health.
